Sax Impey is a British artist currently working from Porthmeor Studios, a historic studio complex overlooking Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, which continues in the tradition of Patrick Heron and Ben Nicholson.

Since 2005 Sax has produced work almost exclusively from his experiences at sea. A qualified RYA Yachtmaster, Sax has sailed many thousands of nautical miles delivering yachts around the world. These extensive trips have had a profound immersive impact on his life and on his development as a painter.

In 2007 Sax Impey was heralded by The Times as one of the ' New Faces of Cornish Art ' and he was exhibited at the Tate Gallery St Ives. Sax was featured by the BBC in a documentary  'Art of The Sea' alongside Anish Kapoor, Turner, Martin Parr and Maggi Hambling.

Sax was elected an Academician by the Royal West of England Academy in 2012. He has been represented in numerous solo and group shows in London, Cornwall, Berlin, Canada and Wales. Sax Impey's paintings are in many important collections including The Arts Council, Warwick University, The Connaught Hotel and  Terence Disdale Design.
